Alan "Sufyan" Cox Joins iinix

Remember this Slashdot article about Alan taking a year's leave from kernel development and RedHat to do his MBA? It was a cover up. The truth is, he's now working as my full time Corporate Affairs Manager. ;-)

Sufi Cox

Wait till you see who the new SysAdmin is.

Our Manager Technical Affairs

It was after office hours and the newly installed carpet made the office feel a little hotter and stuffier than usual. So the first thing Mr.Babar decided to do when he got in was take off his shirt. It was then that I made a grab for my camera:

Roman Crimes of Fashion

It wasn't the article itself that made me post this. It was the fact that a no nonsense news source like the BBC published it.

Could have sworn it wasn't April the 1st today.

Windows Blaster Worm

The only effect this worm seems to be having on most people is that their machines are getting rebooted. As for me, I couldn't connect to the internet at all between Tuesday morning and this afternoon. That despite being immune to the worm's direct effects (go Linux).

My ISP was being flooded by any infected machines that connected, resulting in disconnections or busy lines for all other users. It was only less than 6 hours ago that I finally managed to read mail and do some work.

Right now, I'm running a small tool to see if I get any attempts to infect my machine and can already see a few from other users of my ISP. Guess they are blocking connections from outside, but it hasn't stopped some people from spreading it.

Riz's Car vs the Tree

A friend of mine crashed his car into a tree last night. It (the car not the tree) probably won't run again, but Riz survived with only a broken wrist, a cut upper lip and lots of scratches. Nothing too serious, thank God. He was really lucky, looking at the state of the car.

Like a lot of other cars here, including mine, this one ran on CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). If his gas tank had exploded..... . This is what the car and the tree looked like before it was towed away (the car not the tree):

Rizwan's Car 1 Rizwan's Car 2 Rizwan's Car 3

I'm amazed that although the law requires you to wear a seatbelt, most people don't. The reason they cite for it is that it reduces your chances of survival in an accident by tying you down. I guess these geniuses know something those car manufacturers, who waste millions on car safety, don't.

Mission Statement and Vanguard Flashbacks

I'm in the office on a Sunday working on a mission statement for iinix's profile. Have quite a few ideas and the others have given a lot of feedback so now just have to put everything in the right words.

It was roughly 3 years ago that we were doing the same thing at Vanguard. Funny how many things remind me of it these days. Even the office is shaped similar to our very first office in Tomigaya which swayed with the wind and had a really funny sign on the elevator. Can't find the photo I took of it, but will post it again as soon as I do.

Blogshares Webring

Found this by accident when instead of auto-completing the URL, Galeon passed "blogshares" onto Google:

Oh, and I'm worth about B$250 million these days:
